WORK IN PROGRESS |
I know I'm late ! (14-07-2005) But I'm a very busy man :)
Two month ago, I was amazed by the speed announced for this new PSD. I immediatly
decided to go for it and see how it really performes.
I ordered the product directly at the manufacturer in South Korea. This is not
the best/cheapest way for an European like me but it's the only way at this
time.
Ten days later the NextoCF arrived in a box with the following item:
- The main Item
- A black pouch
- An USB2 cable
- An IEEE 1384 cable
- An AC addapteur (Voltage compatible from 110v/60Hz to 220v/50Hz)
- A Vehicule charging cable
- A Screwdriver with 4 little screws.
- A Korean/English manual.
I put the HardDrive I ordered in the meanwhile. An HITACHI - Travelstar 80GN - 80 Go - 2.5'' - ATA-100 - 4200 t/mn - 8 Mo
Inside...
The NextoCF look very simple. Only one button !
A very simple 4 lines DotMatrix B&W LCD Screen without
backlight.
Line #1: HardDrive empty space + Battery Indicator |
One CompactFlash slot
An ExtBattery connector + USB2.0 + FireWireIEEE and the AC addapter
connector.
.
Ok let's start the real thing...
My Cards:
I have 1x512 CF + 2x 2GB CF + 1x 4GB CF. I experience 2 kind of result with my 2GB CF so I have do precise things.
CF Card Model |
Nbr of Files |

I'll use U40 or U41 to specify which one of my 2 x 2GB CF I use...

Note 1: See the two RIDATA 2GB 52x does not perform the same.
Note 2: The more file you have, the slower NextoCf perform. (Common to every
PSD)
Comments: Appart from the problem I have with the U40 CF this
product is ULTRA FAST and, for the first time, the PSD is no
more the limitating factor. CF Card has to be very fast until NextoCF shows
its limits.
That's a damm good news :) Of course it support FAT16 and FAT32
NextoCF "In the Field" Autonomy:

Note1: HDrive is formated before every Autonomy test.
Note2: I did not include the last "Battery Low" aborted backup
Note3: With the External Battery and because I have a 80GB HDrive, I had to
connect (through USB) the NextoCF to my computer to erase some backup.
Comments: Because CF Card are transfered more than twice the average speed of PSD, Even the small build in battery shows good result. With both the Build In and the External you enter another sphere... MORE THAN 100GB of Autonomy :)
NextoCF to PC "In the Office" Transfer Speed:

Note: I dont know why but sometime my computer shows me a transfer speed of 20MB/s and sometime only 15MB/s. I'm wondering why I got such differences. Perhaps I've got another task on myu PC that create some other access to the HD...
Comments: This is not my personal favorite technical feature but we could applause the developpers. They include both USB & IEEE that acheve at their regular VERY GOOD SPEED. I'm quite sure my PC is not the best, furthermore I think that faster HardDrive in the NextCF could gives us better result.

Comments: Only available with FireWire IEEE, this Card Reader is a quite cool additionnal feature. As you can see, It shows the very limit of each card I try. My other CF Card readers (USB2.0) show similar result. GREAT For IEEE User !
What's Cool about this NextoCF ?
What's BAD or NOT THAT GOOD about this NextoCF ?
My personnal Advise for this PSD:
GET THIS FANTASTIC NEXTO-CF |
