Introduction: I love Digital Photography. My current setup is a Canon 10D SLR and two 512MB Ridata CF. My PSD is an old Digital Album (upgraded with a 60GB HDrive). This setup is good with my current type of shooting since each CF could contain approximately 160 Full Resolution JPEG. Unfortunately, I would love to shoot Raw but a 512MB CF only contain 75 RAW. This is not enough for me since I have to manipulate CF too often (CF are quite small and I don’t want to loose one of them or even format the wrong CF this is an error that could happened when swapping to much). I’m also considering the new Hi-Speed Canon 1D Mark II and I’m pretty sure this machine gun will need much bigger CF. My ideal setup would be: 1 very fast and big CF (2GB or more) and one of my old 512MB Ridata CF as backup.
Update on 08/27/2004:
I have my marvelous Mark II for 2 month now. This is an incredible machine,
everything's fast, accurate and can be tunned. Noise is incredibly low even
at 1600Iso. Autonomy is no more a problem. I also baught a 2GB 52x/Pro Ridata.
This CF is a very good product considering Price & Speed (7MB/s Reading
speed with my USB2.0 Reader). I also considered the SanDisk Ultra II but it
was too pricey for the speed difference. Furthermore a 2GB CF is still FAT16
formated so I keep the compatibility with most of the PSD (I do not need Fat32
compatibility)
On my Digital Album I transfer my full 2GB CF in 16'49" wich is not bad
considering the actual range of product. I'm allowed to transfer only 4 CF with
one battery life.
I'm still waiting for an HI-SPEED & HI-AUTONOMY product.
Update on 05/13/2005: I'm still in love with my 1D MarkII. I have a brand new Ridata 4GB 80x ProII CF wich is capable of 10MB/s but more important I have the new ULTRA FAST NextoCF. For the first time a PSD is not a limitating factor. CF speed is the point ! Have a look at the technical specification & the SideBySide chart. After that, have a look at the brilliant RobGalbraith CF Speed Database.
This page has been created to concentrate on the same page the technical features I’m interested in and that you should also worry about :)
The features I'm watching:

I did not include any Portable CD-R/W or DVD-R/W Recorders as they seem too
complicated unit to me.
You need extra discs plus the lens mechanic is very fragile (Sand or Dust is
not good for those mechanical parts)
You don't have those problems with Hard Disk based unit.
Also I did not include Items that are not primary intend for photographer such as Archos AV340, Archos AV140 or even IPOD *... The list would have grown too much and I prefer device that do not need extra item to work... Those tools are not LEGO™. They need reliability!
Conclusion: In Progress
Hope it helps some of you !
